Author - Dr Amishi P. Jha

In today’s fast-paced world, with so many distractions all around, our attention span is very small. It is becoming more and more difficult for us to pay attention to things or keep our focus on something for long. In short, we all suffer from, in varying degrees, attention deficit syndrome. Lack of attention leads to a mechanical life wherein we grapple with multiple issues. According to research, we lose a big chunk of our life because we don’t experience the present moment due to this lack of attention. Physically we may be present at a place but mentally we aren’t there. Our mobile phones are buzzing constantly, and we are constantly consuming addictive content across multiple social media platforms. We live in an attention economy where everyone vies for our attention. Our attention has become a commodity which is packaged and sold for solid profits.

‘Peak Mind’ by Dr Amishi Jha is one such book that addresses these issues faced by us. The author has talked about this, and all related pitfalls being faced by us. With her background and experience, she has been able to put forward her ideas in an effective manner, making us realise how much we are suffering due to this. We are mentally fatigued and overwhelmed due to our inability to focus on meaningful things. The author has shared insights on how we can overcome this to maximise our potential. She has shared research-backed findings that give deep insights as well as debunks common myths.

The writing style is engaging and easy to read and relate to. It makes us take pause and reflect that we are also suffering from attention disorder. The realisation will hit you hard. It will make you think and motivate you to work on making amends. The good thing is that book also has exercises that can be done in 12 minutes to declutter our minds and improve our focus. These exercises are the result of first-hand work done by authors in the field and allow us to experience more of life. Bring your focus back to live the life to fullest. Overall a good read.
